Weekly(ish) Write-Ins

Working with a community of story-tellers and artists can help inspire productivity and creativity. But sometimes, it’s hard to wait for the monthly gathering! That’s why we have our write-in sessions called Inklings.

Our Inklings groups vary according to the needs of those present. Some focus on shared critiques and others emphasize dedicated writing time. But they are all regular, casual meetings and the goal is to foster connection with each other. We want to build community and friendships, and help each other overcome obstacles in our storytelling work.

We try to meet rain or shine, even throughout the summer months when most things drop off. In church-terms, think of this gathering as a home-group and the monthly meeting as the corporate gathering.

What to expect

Members can bring several paper copies of their work in progress (WIP). The general format of these meetings includes a feedback session followed by independent work time. For the first hour, we read aloud and handwrite critiques, give feedback, brainstorm ideas, and help each other find new perspectives for our work. This is a safe place for artists of all skill levels to get the support and help they need. This smaller group is more conducive to individualized questions and story problem-solving.

Cost

There is no charge when we meet at public libraries. Everyone is welcome. Inklings are always free for ICW members, otherwise we request a small drop in fee to keep this framework going. We are so thankful for the dedicated members who keep these groups going.

Our Lofty Goal

Our goal is to offer weekly sessions in different locations throughout the valley. If you are a member, please consider applying to host a new group in your area. The frequency and location are up to you. Please see the calendar for details, specific updates & cancellations, or to register for events. You can also search events in the member app. We include Inklings in the meeting title, for easy reference.

There is a group meeting on the first and third Thursday and currently meets at the Royal Coffee in The Village. This group needs a co-leader to take turns facilitating. You do not need to be far along in your writing journey to facilitate a group. An ideal leader is just encouraging to other writers and comfortable directing the conversation so that everyone has a chance to present their work. If you are interested, let us know on the Facebook Page, or fill out this form.
